All patients arriving at the EMD are met by a registered nurse who will triage the patients first. The EMD use the Manchester Triage Scale which is a system that sorts the patients according to their priority Based on the clinical presentation, focused subjective and objective assessment

Treatment at the Emergency Department
After registration, patients are guided to a treatment area where an Emergency Medicine physician evaluates their condition. Some patients may require additional evaluation, such as blood work or imaging studies. After the evaluation is complete, the treatment team will discuss the appropriate next step with the patient. This may mean that the patient is discharged home, referred to the clinic, admitted to the hospital, or transferred to another facility.

The EMD team ensures that patients are provided with all the information they need to follow the recommended treatment plan. Nurses work with each patient to carefully review all medical instructions. They also explain when to return for follow-up care and in what situations the patient should return to the Department.
 
To help make the transition home as smooth as possible, pharmacy services are available within the department 24 hours a day. The on-site pharmacist can provide clarification on questions about prescription medications to be taken at home.
